Navalsaz site

Village area of Navalsaz

This site in the village of Navalsaz in La Rioja dates from the Early Cretaceous period. The 138 imprints making up the site can be broken down into 12 trails, two separate fossil tracks, and eight others that form a more or less diverse group.

The footprints were made by  ornithopods, some that moved very slowly and others at a more rapid pace. One footprint appears to be interrupted and then continues on its way in another footprint farther away. The fossil tracks grouped together make it impossible to determine the number of animals that caused them or discern the kind of dinosaur that planted its feet in this area. The poorly-preserved condition of the separate tracks made it impossible to determine what dinosaur made them.
